Power of Words

Coast Salish people have always relied on oral communication to pass down information to sustain a highly established civilization. After the signing of the treaty, a new systematic way of thinking emerged for the Tulalip people through alphabetic literacy. This exhibit explores literary interactions of the Tulalip people since 1855 to today.

It is evident how literacy provided the Tulalip community a much needed weapon in their battles against legal cases, discrimination, and cultural destruction.
